Apple in China

I am not a great fan of Apple - though  I might have coveted some of its products but I hardly use any of them. Like every successful corporation it has its share of critics and controversies.

One such controversy is over Apple's alleged human rights violations in China.

This story in TIME rebuts that criticism, "Mike Daisey — the man whose allegations about Apple’s Chinese labor practices triggered a public relations firestorm — was flatly dishonest".

'This American Life' which published a story based on Mike Daisey's allegations has now retracted the story.

However, the way big corporates manipulate media, I am not 100% sure where is the truth.

Detective versus Dentist

This picture says "Pooja Bedi at the launch of Book called 'The Reluctant Dentist'" where as the display behind Pooja Bedi says "The Reluctant Detective".

( Picture through Twitter)

Wonder who confused a detective as a dentist and what would a  reluctant dentist look like ?

An Apple App

I can't remember how did I reach this page which says:

"iansherr is using Instagram - a fun & quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo, then choose a filter to transform the look and feel of the shot into a memory to keep around forever".

It is asking me to download an app but I can't make out why?

Google and Toilet Water

Some days back Wired carried this story about Google using recycled toilet water to cool its data centres.

Apparently, Google recycles the shower and flush water in its evaporative cooling systems though it costs more at present and it could save some money in future.

The most immediate benefit is reduced stress on the natural water system where Google operates.

All this sounds very good and inspiring but the question it raises in my mind is :

Is all this green effort worth all the money the corporate world is spending or will we be better off if the corporates do not stress the natural system in first place instead of first playing havoc with nature and then spending some money to wash their sins?

I know a giant corporation can articulate a dozen defences but can they break the vicious cycle that is behind all this?
